I think we can be pretty confident that it's not the Indian manufactured one. It is a pity we don't have more of the Pfizer and even J & J, being one shot only.
I would love to know why, according to Leo, Ireland is awash with AZ and short of Pfizer/Moderna and J&J when the situation elsewhere is the opposite.

More vaccines, of any type, even AZ, are better than none.

That assumes that they are willing to vaccinate people more than two doses. It is unfair to people who took AZ, in good faith, to be locked out of other types.

More importantly, it is also bad policy. Booster vaccines are likely to close the gap. Two AZ + a different one for the third dose is likely to improve the effectiveness of the vaccine.
Or second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, I got first AZ, it was the first available and I grabbed the first I could get. I had Moderna for my second just under eight weeks later.

My money is on the use of the less effective AZ. Vital that the Irish government immediately start to offer third dose/booster of Pfizer or Moderna to all who have had two doses of AZ starting with the over 60s.
The Irish government could offer third shots of AZ if so many are lying around.

In any case, Michael Martin would probably be terrified of upsetting Our Nearest Neighbour by doing anything that could be seen to cast aspersions on AZ.

Anyone who has had two doses of AZ needs a immediate booster with Pfizer or Moderna. As the EU stopped buying AZ at the end of June I cannot under why Ireland is awash with it, if Leo is to be believed, and the rest of EU had stopped using it.

This is beyond a joke, the government call rush through legislation when it suits. There should be a legal obligation, with robust enforcement and penalties, which requires an employer to give employees sufficient paid time off to get vaccinated and, where necessary, paid time off for the very small minority who suffer adverse effects.

I have not read of this type of criminal behaviour happening in any other developed country.

Will we see the same bullshit from the publicans and restaunteurs?

Name and shame.

Herd Immunity via Vaccines .. the delta effect

I'm surprised anyone with a scientific bone in their body ever thought different. Fundamentals of virology indicate herd immunity is a very high percentage of the population. Over 90% for a novel virus iirc.

Yes I remember from one of my previous jobs that over 90% of children needed to be vaxed against measles to establish herd immunity. I always thought it strange that they only spoke of %'s of the adult population in relation to Covid.

Delta .. bad news re pfizer

On the plus side, at least it protects against severe covid/hospitalizations at 80%+.

It strongly suggests that Pfizer requires regular (3 months?) boosters. Though I guess it is possible that boosters could have less and less effect (or optimisitically, maybe a 3rd dose stabilizes the vaccine).

Pharma, labs, online shopping, food delivery services and internet streaming services - you’d could almost be forgiven for thinking they became the backbone of the economy.

I thought that the interval between Pfizer jabs was four weeks. Does anyone know if this has changed? Two people I know have been given appointments for 2nd jabs less than 3 weeks after the first. Can this be right?

It was did not hear that it has changed, is it with a Vaccination clinic, GP, or a Pharmacey, maybe they should double check to be sure it could be a mistake, don't know it will be less effective

This week's update for the fastest vaccine deployment countries (previous week) has more than reversed the latest cases average increase with the recorded infections in the UK peaking on 21/07. And its rise has slowed down again in the second group.

Denmark has replaced Hungary in group one and China is back in group two with the US and Austria going out.

- cfr6M equals total deaths by 15/7/21 minus the total by 15/1/21 divided by total cases
for 1/7/21 minus the total for 1/1/21, multiplied by 100. Average ratios in the μ row

The earlier high incidence values in Bahrain, Chile, the Maldives and Uruguay (OWiD figure) have come down significantly during June and July, whereby the Delta variant has yet to establish itself in the two South American countries.

In contrast the surges caused by Delta in the European countries and Israel (OWiD figure).

Just heard that France has ceased using AZ, all doses already given and any future deliveries to be given to Covax.

Denmark stopped using it months ago, why is Ireland, according to Leo, awash with the stuff and continuing to foist on the population?

Fintan O'Toole was in the IT today saying we only have 6% hard anti vax here. And it is 4% in UK. Largely because the British really trust the NHS.

Good stats. Mind you, his thesis that lack of anti vax makes us immune from far right lunacy was a stretch when you look at the UK. Unless the UK have a trust silo mentality for the NHS, and are masochists/idiots in other areas.

Germany has similar anti vax views to US. Which seems weird...

It’s all those “yellow vest” and “wake up” groups on social media. They are heavily pushing the line that the opening up is discriminatory and segregation etc. There may be issues involved here for opening up on this basis, but these fuckers are using that to then propagate further anti vax bull. Social media companies should be hitting down hard on these groups.

People are conflating the numbers at the demonstrations in France at the weekend with the numbers of rabid anti vaxxers. This not the full story, those on those demos represented a weird and wonderful array of political views and downright nutters, including religious headcases, monarchists, anarchists, gilet jaunes, extreme right including the veterans of Algiers, who deserve a category of their own, extreme left, pro immigration, anti immigration, anti Macron, alongside "true" anti vaxxers and covid deniers. At the same time they were on the streets, more than double their numbers we queuing up at Vax centres, pharmacies, etc to get first or second dose.

@Robutnua a lot is being made of the "watered down" legislation passed on Sunday night but in reality little has changed. Medical, etc staff who refuse vaccine will not be sacked but will be suspended without pay, they will not be entitled to any welfare payments. The ID check thing is a bit of a red herring, the checks are being done, in the main using the app, which has your I'd even if it cannot be seen*. The app does not accept fake QR codes and I cannot imagine anyone fully vaccinated allowing an anti vaxers to scan their QR code. The French app will accept, genuine, QR codes from other EU countries.

*There are two settings on the app, standard for reading, and "border" this shows all information, name, age, dob, vaccine status, vaccine dates, type, place of manufacture and batch code of vaccine.

I was at an event the other evening, the app was scanned at entry, I did not see any paper nor did I see anyone turned away but it is a small venue in a small town.

I will let you know what transpires after August 1. In the interest of research, I have have an indoor drink.

Not saying the minority are not vocal scum.
Note the common thread here .. SOCIAL MEDIA. Its the oxygen for these people, it needs to be cutoff.

I notice since TRUMP gone off twitter .. as possible as this is .. it has got way more calmer in comparison to when he was tweeting hourly & stirring it up for 4 years which spilled into everything else on that platform.

As I said elsewhere here its been noted that since Yaxley-Lennon aka Tommy Robinson has been chucked off social media his followers there have also dialled it down and his rally's are now pitifully smaller with the rallying call facility that is soc media cut off. Which leads one to conclude that most of these anti this and that crowd are lone keyboard warriors ONLY with multiple accounts stirring it up VIRTUALLY Online ONLY making it look as if they are bigger than they are AND would never turn up in the flesh at anything preferring the "anonymity" and CONVENIENCE of there puter/tablet/phone in internet

Why has the name been redacted? He/she posted it and owns it, let everyone see what type of vile moron he/she is.

I post under my own name on twitter, I have had dog's abuse from nutters, I block them, many of these so called "patriots" are holed up in Montana or a box room in Texas. If I felt there was a credible threat, I would contact the Gardai and report, despite it being a waste of time, to Twitter.

Well you can see the name under the scribbles :D ... I heard the owner on radio earlier, she said all the names / accounts being used are pretty much fake accounts. As i said in the post above yours, you will find these people only exist in our lives through the oxygen of social media, without it they would be neutered because they have no intention of ever exposing there real selves to the world

Agree they have been doing this in France for a while, they had them following the Tour de France and have opened them at the popular beach resorts, something they should consider in Ireland.

They exist out in the real world too, but, for some reason, they seem less persuasive:
